La novel·la gràfica: un canvi d’horitzó en la indústria del còmic

Abstract

Des de fa poc més d’una dècada, autors, teòrics i periodistes parlen de la novel·la gràfica com a àmbit en el qual el còmic, per fi, ha aconseguit un nivell de qualitat literari que obri, així, les portes de la legitimació cultural. En aquest article ens allunyarem de les perspectives d’estudi més comunes i qüestionarem la relació entre còmic, novel·la gràfica i literatura. Des de l’anàlisi de la indústria del còmic espanyola, parant especial atenció a la distribució i als canals de venda, buscarem indicis de si, tot i no ser literatura, la novel·la gràfica està propiciant una normalització de la indústria del còmic espanyola com a subsector de la indústria editorial.

Only since just over a decade ago, authors, scholars and journalists have been talking about the graphic novel as a field in which the comic medium has finally achieved literature’s standard quality, opening the doors of cultural legitimization. In this article we will look at the relationship between comics, graphic novels and literature from a very different perspective. By the analysis of the Spanish comics industry, and paying particular attention to the distribution channels, we will look for indications of whether, despite not being considered literature as such, the graphic novel is leading to a normalization of the comic industry in Spain as a subsector of the book industry.
