Mecanismos de regulación emocional y el género: estudiantes de Ciencias de la Actividad Física y el Deporte

Abstract

In professional life, teamwork is essential, and university education provides a good opportunity for students to learn to work in groups. Collaboration within the group encourages the exchange of ideas, and emotions can contribute positively or negatively to collaborative work. The aim of this study was to find out and analyse the gender differences in the emotional regulation mechanism of students during group work of the Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, from a Spanish university and another Chilean university. The design of this research was quantitative. The sample consisted of a total of 34 women and 76 men. The instrument used to collect the data was an AIRE (Adaptative Instrument for Regulation of Emotions) questionnaire. The main general results show similarity of responses between genders, with some significant differences (p=≤.05) between women and men in the aspects of personal motivations and emotional regulation mechanisms. No significant differences were found in socioemotional challenges or in the balance of metacognitive experience. Finally, our study showed that both men and women work equally effectively in teamwork.
