¿Devorar para reparar? Una intervención Yanomami en la arquitectura modernista del Congreso Nacional de Brasilia

Abstract

La noche del veintiuno de diciembre de dos mil veinte, se proyectaron en las fachadas del Congreso Nacional de Brasilia, diseñado por Oscar Niemeyer, grafismos de la cosmología Yanomami con el fin de reivindicar la expulsión de los garimpeiros de sus Tierra Indígenas y denunciar la contaminación de suelos, ríos y degradación forestal de sus territorios. Esta proyección de la animación amerindia, titulada Xapiri pë në mari [El soplo de los xapiri], con frases de Davi Kopenawa e ilustraciones del artista Joseca Yanomami, además de ser un acto político de suma importancia, abre otros cuestionamientos en el campo de la arquitectura y del urbanismo. Frente al proyecto moderno impuesto sobre el territorio que supuso en la década de 1950 la construcción de Brasilia, la intervención Yanomami interpela y pone en jaque la supremacía de un proyecto nacional urbano-territorial, invocando otras epistemologías y visiones de mundo. Esta reflexión explica cómo este gesto arquitectónico, devora críticamente al edificio institucional, en el sentido antropofágico, al vestir con un pellejo amerindio a un símbolo del canon espacial moderno. La propuesta antropofágica de intervención en la arquitectura abre perspectivas proyectuales y propone un diálogo para diseñar juntos múltiples urbanidades posibles, apuntando a otras relaciones y devenires entre la Floresta y la Ciudad.

On the night of December twenty-first, two thousand and twenty, graphics of the Yanomami cosmology were projected on the facades of the National Congress of Brasilia, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, in order to demand the expulsion of illegal gold miners from their Indigenous Lands and to denounce the contamination of soils, rivers and forest degradation of their territories. This projection of the Amerindian animation, entitled Xapiri pë në mari [The breath of the xapiri], with phrases by Davi Kopenawa and illustrations by the artist Joseca Yanomami, besides being a political act of great importance, opens other questions in the field of architecture and urbanism. Faced with the modern project imposed on the territory in the 1950s with the construction of Brasilia, the Yanomami intervention questions and challenges the supremacy of a national urban-territorial project, invoking other epistemologies and worldviews. This reflection explains how this architectural gesture critically devours the institutional building, in the anthropophagic sense, by dressing a symbol of the modern spatial canon with an Amerindian skin. The architectural anthropophagic proposal opens up project perspectives and suggests a dialogue to design together multiple possible urbanities, pointing to other relationships and futures between the Forest and the City.
