José Carlos Mariátegui y la polémica del indigenismo

Abstract

En este artículo se tratan los antecedentes de ese movimiento en el Perú de los años 30, la vigencia de la prédica de Manuel González Prada (1844-1918) y la polémica del indigenismo de 1927 en las revistas limeñas Mundial y Amauta, entre Enrique López Albújar (1872-1966), José Escalante (1883-1965), Luis Alberto Sánchez (1900-94).y José Carlos Mariátegui (1894-1930). El artículo analiza el legado de Mariátegui, su interpretación marxista del problema del indio, así como su influencia en el indigenismo de Ciro Alegría (1909-67) y el neo-indigenismo de José María Arguedas (1911-69) al recalcar un movimiento beligerante, de reivindicaciones y transformaciones concretas, en vez de una restauración antihistórica y antidialéctica.

This article explains the background of indigenism (the pro-Amerindian movement) in Peru during the 1930’s, as well as the lingering effects of the essays and speeches by the progressive writer Manuel González Prada (1844-1918), and the 1927 debate on indigenism in the well known Lima journals Mundial and Amauta with the participation of Enrique López Albújar (1872-1966), José Escalante (1883-1965), Luis Alberto Sánchez (1900-94) and José Carlos Mariátegui (1894-1930). This article analyzes Mariátegui’s legacy, his original Marxist interpretation of the Indian problem and how it influenced Ciro Alegría (1909-67) and José María Arguedas (1911-69) on stressing concrete revolutionary responses to the exploitation of the natives, without promoting an anti- historical and anti-dialectic restoration of Amerindian rights.
