Dos nuevos cascos hispano-calcídicos en contexto urbano: los oppida celtibéricos de Aratis (Aranda de Moncayo, Zaragoza) y Contrebia Carbica (Villas Viejas, Cuenca)

Abstract

Se presentan dos fragmentos de casco de tipo hispano-calcídico procedentes de los oppida celtibéricos de Aratis, en Aranda de Moncayo, Zaragoza, y Contrebia Carbica, en Villas Viejas, Cuenca, que vienen a incrementar el catálogo de este singular modelo, integrado por más de 30 ejemplares. Se trata de fragmentos pertenecientes al protector nasal, con características morfológicas similares, que permiten plantear su carácter evolucionado dentro de la serie. Se analizan igualmente los contextos de procedencia, valorando el hallazgo de estas armas defensivas en ámbitos urbanos, con el interés, en el caso del ejemplar de Aranda, de proceder del mismo lugar donde se recuperaron de forma ilegal hace algunos años un destacado conjunto de cascos del mismo modelo.

The paper focuses on two fragments of Hispano-chalcidian helmet. Both have been found in celtiberian oppida: Aratis (Aranda de Moncayo, Zaragoza) and Contrebia Carbica (Villas Viejas, Cuenca). These examples increase the catalog of this unique model, comprising more 30 helmets. The fragments correspond to the nose guards. The similar morphology allows us to discuss the later groups in the evolution of this helmet type. Simultaneously, the paper analyzed the contexts of origin, considering the discovery of defensive weapons in urban areas, with particular interest on the fragment of Aranda because it has been found in the same context where illegally excavations recovered, some years ago, an outstanding set of helmets of the same type.
