Patrimonio arquitectónico en Sant Joan d’Alacant: preservación de las viviendas residenciales decimonónicas

Abstract

En los últimos años, observamos un cambio de uso en la arquitectura residencial decimonónica de Sant Joan d’Alacant. En este sentido, encontramos diversas viviendas rehabilitadas para albergar dependencias destinadas a un fin público mientras que otras se han convertido en hoteles, restaurantes o salas de fiestas. A pesar del esfuerzo colectivo en preservar esta arquitectura que constituye una señal de identidad de esta localidad, es necesaria su puesta en valor para convertir algunas de estas residencias en recursos turísticos culturales que promuevan por un lado su conservación, restauración y rehabilitación; y, por otro, en fuente de ingresos para esta población. La importancia de estas viviendas para su preservación reside en que es el reflejo y la consecuencia de una nueva clase social que se consolida durante el siglo XIX, sin olvidar el cambio que se produce en la distribución de sus espacios interiores y su relación con el entorno.

In the last few years, a change in the usage of nineteenth century residential architecture in Sant Joan d’Alacant has been noticed. In this sense, we can find several houses that were rehabilitated to house the facilities meant for public purpose, while others have been transformed into hotels, restaurants or banquet halls. Despite all collective efforts made to preserve this type of architecture, which represents the identity of this town, it becomes necessary to highlight and promote it in order to turn some of these houses into a source of income, making them cultural touristic resources that promote their conservation, restoration and rehabilitation. The importance of these houses for their preservation lies in the fact that they are the reflection and the consequence of a new social class consolidating during the nineteenth century, remembering also the change being made in the distribution of their inner spaces and their relation with the environment.
