Turismo y espacios rurales : conceptos, filosofías y realidades

Abstract

Numerosos estudios referidos al turismo rural se centran, casi exclusivamente, en variables turísticas y se ocupan sólo tangencialmente de los espacios donde se localiza esta actividad, considerándolos un mero soporte de la misma. De otro lado, en las investigaciones sobre los espacios rurales, es poco frecuente encontrar análisis detallados de la actividad turística desde una perspectiva sectorial. Sin embargo, el hecho turístico es indisociable del espacio donde se localiza y, en mayor medida, si aspiramos a un desarrollo turístico sostenible. El presente artículo trata de identificar las transformaciones operadas en los espacios rurales porque éstas inciden decisivamente en el desarrollo de la actividad turística y en la aportación del turismo al desarrollo rural. Tras la consideración de una serie de criterios para la definición del turismo rural, haciendo hincapié en la diferencia entre los modelos deseables y los desarrollos concretos, se valoran sintéticamente algunos aspectos de la evolución del turismo rural en nuestro país.

A great number of studies related to rural tourism are nearly always based on tourist criteria and pay little attention to the areas where this activity is located. In this sense, they consider these areas as mere sceneries of tourist activity. On the other hand, in research on rural areas it is unusual to find a detailed analysis of tourism from this sector point of view. Nevertheless, the tourist phenomenon can not be separated from the area where it is located and, to a greater extent, if we try to achieve a sustainable tourist development. This article tries to identify the transformation of rural areas due to their great influence on the development of tourist activity and on the contribution of tourism to rural development. After considering several criteria for the definition of rural tourism, and stressing the difference between the desirable models and the concrete developments, we have synthetically assesed certain aspects of the evolution of rural tourism in our country.
