Guerra Civil y conciencia social: En mi hambre mando yo de Isabel Oyarzábal

Abstract

A pesar de haber desempeñado un relevante papel en la vida cultural, intelectual y político-social española de principios del siglo XX, la obra literaria de Isabel Oyarzábal quedó durante décadas relegada. Afortunadamente, en los últimos años la reedición de algunos de sus trabajos y la investigación desde diferentes ámbitos (el histórico, el literario, el social) sobre su vida y su producción han contribuido a recuperar su legado. Este trabajo nace con el propósito de analizar cómo narra la Guerra Civil, desde una perspectiva comprometida socialmente, en su novela En mi hambre mando yo, que publica en 1959. Nuestra intención es contribuir a subrayar la importancia de esta obra, no solo por su calidad literaria, sino también por su valor histórico y ético, al haber sido creada por una de las mujeres que participaron activamente en el desarrollo intelectual que comportó la II República, fue testigo del conflicto más sangriento y doloroso que tuvo lugar en nuestro país en el siglo pasado y se vio obligada a exiliarse a México con toda su familia cuando el ejército sublevado consiguió la victoria, pero que, con todo, no presenta una visión partidista, sino humana, del conflicto.

Despite having played a significant role in cultural, intellectual, political and social Spanish life at the beginning of the twentieth century, the literary work of Isabel Oyarzábal has re-mained relegated for decades. Fortunately, in the latest years the reissue of some or her books and the research about her life and production from different fields have contributed to recover her legacy. This paper carries the purpose of analyse how she related civil war, from a socially engaged perspective, in her novel En mi hambre mando yo, which was published in 1959. Our intention is to contribute some remarks in order to underline the importance of this work, not only for its literary quality, but also for its historical and ethic value, having been created for one of the women that participated actively in the intellectual development of the Spanish II Republic. One woman, furthermore, who was witness to the most bloody and pain-ful conflict that took place in her country in the past century and was forced to exile in Mexico with her family when the rebel army won, but, who, even so, does not offer a partisan vision of the conflict, rather a humanistic one.
