Las ideas pedagógicas del universalista Joaquín Millás

Abstract

En el presente artículo se exponen las ideas pedagógicas de Joaquín Millás, jesuita expulso a Italia y miembro de la importante Escuela Universalista Española del siglo XVIII. Tras una breve presentación de las implicaciones y obras educativas de dicha Escuela, se procede a la ilustración de los principales tratados de Millás. Nos detendremos sobre todo en Dell’unico principio svegliatore della ragione, del gusto, e della virtù nell’educazione letteraria, obra más original de las escritas por el autor. En ella, Millás acomete una operación teórica bastante significativa: sustituye el concepto eminentemente poetológico de ‘imitación’ (mímesis) por el epistemológico de ‘observación’.

This article presents the pedagogical ideas of Joaquín Millás, a Jesuit expelled to Italy and member of the important Spanish Universalist School of the 18th century. After a brief presentation of the implications and educational works of this School, we proceed to the illustration of Millás’ main treatises. We will focus on Dell’unico principio svegliatore della ragione, del gusto, e della virtù nell’educazione letteraria, the most original work written by the author. In it, Millás undertakes a quite significant theoretical operation: he replaces the eminently poetic concept of ‘imitation’ (mimesis) with the epistemological concept of ‘observation’.
