Abstract

Romances from modern oral tradition and the Songs of the Blind are important genres in Hispanic culture. These songs have been closely connected to the cultural world of women, who have been chiefly responsible for their transmission. They emerged between the 15th and 16th centuries, and although there is still some awareness of these songs today, recently their number has diminished to such an extent that they have almost fallen into oblivion.
