| The stratigraphic distribution of the species of rhynchonellida recorded in the Lower Jurassic of Spain (excluded the Pyrenees) is described. In the Sinemurian and the Pliensbachian a clear paleobiogeographic differentiation is observed between, on the one hand, the basins of the north (Asturias and the Basque-Cantabrian basin) and the east (Iberian and Coastal–Catalan Ranges) and on the other one the Betics Chains. In the Lower Toarcian this difference fades out as consequence of the important event of extinction on the base of the Serpentinum Zone. In the Upper Toarcian there is again a difference in the faunas, this time between the basins of the north and of the east. The elements of possible correlation between the basins are identified in two moments: the Early Pliensbachian and the Early Toarcian. |
