Abstract: 
Post-buckling analysis of a cantilever slender bar under the action of an external vertical concentrated load at the free end is analyzed. We present the differential equation governing the behaviour of this physical system and show that this system is similar to another wellknown physical system: the simple pendulum motion. A simple linearization of the non linear differential equation is presented and analyzed. We present numerical results for various cases and a comparison between the theoretical results and the experimental ones obtained in the laboratory by using a steel ruler as slender bar.
