Abstract: 
Siempre han existido entornos que por su riqueza natural han resultado especialmente atractivos para el desarrollo de núcleos turísticos: el turismo basado en los valores del sitio. Garantizar la integridad de la riqueza natural que actúa como foco de atracción y la creación de un tejido urbano equilibrado sostenible sin perder el carácter del lugar, es el desafío que se nos presenta a los urbanistas. “El valor ambiental del territorio es siempre superior a su valor turístico y, por tanto, la actividad turística nunca debería impedir el mantenimiento a largo plazo de los valores ambientales.” (Fariña, 2003).En la costa mediterránea española encontramos localidades turísticas donde la supervivencia del entorno natural y la calidad urbana se han visto amenazadas por políticas urbanísticas basadas principalmente en el rendimiento económico inmediato, causando la degradación progresiva de estos entornos y poniendo en peligro la continuidad del ecosistema. Un ejemplo claro de esta problemática se presenta en La Manga del Mar Menor, un entorno privilegiado que sufre el desgaste del modelo de Sol y Playa. Es nuestra responsabilidad invertir este proceso, recuperando los principios del Plan de Ordenación de La Manga del Mar Menor de Antoni Bonet i Castellana, complementándolos con un espíritu sostenible.
There have always been environments that have proved especially attractive to tourist development by its natural wealth: the tourism based on the values of the site. Ensure the integrity of the natural wealth that acts as a focus of attraction and the creation of an urban structure balanced sustainable without losing the character of the place, is the challenge that presents itself to urban planners. "The environmental value of the territory is always higher than its tourist value and therefore tourism should never prevent the maintenance of long-term environmental values." (Fariña, 2003) Along the Spanish Mediterranean coast are tourist towns where both the survival of the natural environment and urban quality has been threatened by urban policies based mainly on immediate economic performance, causing the progressive degradation of these environments and endangering the continuity of the ecosystem. A clear example of this problem occurs in La Manga del Mar Menor, a privileged environment that suffers the use of the Sun and Beach model. It is our responsibility to reverse this process, recovering the principles of the original Plan of Bonet and complement them with a more sustainable spirit.
