Abstract: 
Dado que la motivación del alumnado constituye un factor esencial para abordar con garantías de éxito el modelo educativo que propone el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior, el objetivo del artículo es analizar distintos aspectos relativos al papel del profesor y a la metodología que influyen en la motivación del estudiante universitario. Para ello, nos servimos de una encuesta llevada a cabo en la titulación de Traducción e Interpretación (Inglés) de la Universidad de Alicante. Los resultados obtenidos demuestran que el profesorado puede contribuir decisivamente con su actuación en el aula y métodos docentes a generar motivación entre los alumnos, incluso en asignaturas con una matriculación elevada, y, de este modo, facilitar un aprendizaje significativo.
Granted that the degree of motivation of students plays a crucial role within the European Higher Education Area, it is our goal in the present paper to draw attention to different aspects concerning the role of teachers and methodology that influence the motivation of university students. With this in mind, we analyze the results obtained from a survey carried out among second year students of English Translation Studies in the University of Alicante. Data from this survey reveal that teachers can effectively contribute to increasing motivation, even in large classes, and, in so doing, facilitate a significant learning experience.
