The use of traditional mortars in restoration has been shown to be an unsuitable solution, particularly cement-based ones, therefore several studies have been conducted in order to ascertain new materials with the required properties. In this study several types of mortars have been categorized, using different binding-agents and additives. As a result, it is possible to choose the most appropriate mortar for a specific use, in terms of the function it must realize, which could either be pointing mortaring or rendering, as well as for specific atmospheric conditions.
