Abstract: In this paper, the relation between recording and reconstruction geometries for maximum diffraction efficiency in thick holographic lenses is analysed. Theoretical expressions are presented when variations in recording material due to processing are taken into account. A particular holographic lens is studied in both theoretical as well as experimental terms, in order to find the optimized reconstruction geometry for maximum diffraction efficiency and the aberration that appears.
