El Educador Social: pieza clave en los recursos de salud mental

Abstract

La existencia de personas con diversidad funcional, que presentan dificultades para desenvolverse con normalidad en el contexto sociocultural en el que viven, pone a prueba el nivel de responsabilidad y madurez de una sociedad moderna. El presente trabajo pretende poner en valor la Educación Social y a la figura del Educador Social como profesional clave en los recursos de salud mental y para las personas que padecen alguna enfermedad mental crónica. Para ello se realizó el análisis de un taller elegido al azar en un CEEM (Centro Específico para personas con Enfermedad Mental crónica) en la Comunidad Valenciana. Dicho análisis se llevó a cabo con una doble pretensión: primera, estudiar en detalle sus características (tanto positivas como negativas) a fin de lograr una visión completa del mismo; segunda, utilizar los resultados como punto de partida para realizar una serie de propuestas de mejora y revalorizar, al mismo tiempo, la figura del Educador Social. La técnica empleada fue realizar un DAFO (Debilidades, Amenazas, Fortalezas y Oportunidades) 1x4 de las actividades llevadas a cabo en el taller de educación física. Entre las conclusiones obtenidas destaca el papel que los Educadores Sociales pueden y deben jugar no sólo en la programación y puesta en práctica de este tipo de talleres, sino en la reinserción social de los enfermos mentales como ciudadanos con plenos derechos.

The existence of people with disabilities, who have difficulty functioning normally within the sociocultural context in which they live, tests the level of responsibility and maturity of a modern society. This paper aims to give value both to Social Education and the Social Educator figure as a key professional for the mental health resources and the people suffering from chronic mental illness. In order to develop this analysis a workshop was chosen at random in a CEEM (Specific Center for people with chronic Mental Illness) in Valencia, were it was performed. This study was conducted with a double aim: first, to study in detail their characteristics (both positive and negative) to achieve a whole view of the matter; second, to use the results as a starting point for a series of proposals to improve and enhance, at the same time, the figure of the Social Educator. The technique used was to conduct a SWOT (Weaknesses, Threats, Strengths and Opportunities) 1x4 of the activities carried out in the workshop of PE. Among the conclusions, it should be highlights the role that social workers can and should play, not only in planning and implementing workshops, but in the social reintegration of mentally handicapped people as citizens with full rights.
