La Huerta del Bajo Segura (Alicante), un patrimonio cultural en peligro: reflexiones sobre un proyecto museológico integral

Abstract

El proceso de degradación que ha sufrido la Huerta del Bajo Segura en las últimas décadas ha tenido como consecuencia fundamental la pérdida, en algunos casos irremediable, del rico patrimonio cultural que definía a la sociedad huertana. La crisis de la agricultura y la especulación inmobiliaria derivada del turismo residencial, provocaron un acelerado deterioro, tanto del marco territorial tradicional, como de los usos y costumbres seculares inherentes a él. La preocupante y generalizada destrucción patrimonial ha motivado acciones, para la salvaguarda y puesta en valor de los bienes etnográficos, desde distintas instituciones y asociaciones, aunque con irregular y escaso respaldo popular. Los proyectos museográficos desarrollados, en ocasiones, presentan dudosa metodología y cuestionable resultado, o desvirtúan la comprensión de la diversidad social que ha caracterizado a la Huerta. Al presentar un discurso parcial, sustentado en una sesgada cultura material e inmaterial, se conforma un estereotipo folklórico que lejos de fomentar la sensibilización de la población puede, incluso, provocar el rechazo. Estos hechos motivan las siguientes páginas, cuya finalidad es identificar la problemática en el tratamiento actual del patrimonio etnológico y proponer algunas actuaciones de carácter integral que garanticen la transmisión de este legado a las generaciones futuras.

Degradation process that fertile region of Bajo Segura (Alicante) has suffered at last decades has had as a fundamental consequence the loss, irreparable in some cases, of the rich cultural heritage that defined the irrigated area society. The crisis in agriculture and the property speculation, derived from residential tourism, caused an accelerated decay, of both the traditional territorial framework, as of their secular customs and practices inherent to it. The worrying and generalized patrimonial destruction has motivated actions, to save and enhance the ethnographic goods, from various institutions and associations, although with an irregular and low popular support. The museum projects developed in these fields sometimes show a hesitant methodology and a questionable result, or even distort the understanding of the social diversity that has characterized the «Huerta» landscape. From a partial discourse, based in a slanted material and immaterial culture, a quaint stereotype is made up that causes not only a low public awareness but also a rejection. This reality motivates the following pages, which aims to identify the problems in the current treatment of the ethnological heritage and the suggestion of some integral interventions to guarantee the transference of this legacy to future generations.
