La inspiración bíblica como materia estética en la narrativa de Gabriel Miró

Abstract

El carácter poético de la novelística de Gabriel Miró radica, en parte, en la singular utilización que hace de sus lecturas: en su «inspiración libresca». Su biblioteca era, en opinión de Ernesto Giménez Caballero (1928) «un auténtico taller». La Biblia, una de sus lecturas fundamentales, es inagotable fuente de inspiración. Motivos tomados del Libro de Job o del Cantar de los Cantares atraviesan toda su producción literaria, desde La mujer de Ojeda (1901) hasta Años y leguas (1928). Lo más destacado es la recreación de las últimas horas de Jesucristo en Figuras de la Pasión del Señor, obra para la que, además de los Evangelios, utilizó una abundante literatura científica y filosófica, transformando, de manera sorprendente, un material tomado de estudios de «fría erudición» en textos de intensa belleza.

Gabriel Miró was an exceptional reader and the use he makes of his reading is reflected in his novels. His personal library was in the words of Ernesto Giménez Caballero (1928) a «real workshop». The Bible was a great source of his inspiration. Motifs taken from the Book of Job or the Song of Songs can be found throughout his literary works, from La mujer de Ojeda (1901) to Años y leguas (1928). One of the most noteworthy is the description of the last few hours of Jesus in Figures of the Passion of Our Lord, which used not only texts from the New Testament but also a great number of scientific and literary literature transforming formal prose into texts of intense beauty.
