Abstract: 
La técnica de la inoculación se fundamenta en la idea de que los individuos que padecían la viruela quedaban inmunes frente a la enfermedad. Consistía en transferir a un sujeto sano material proveniente de las pústulas de uno enfermo de viruela. Su difusión como remedio preventivo en Occidente se centró en el siglo XVIII. La aceptación de la inoculación por la sociedad y las instituciones españolas no fue uniforme: el proceso abrió un intenso debate entre detractores y defensores que retardó su práctica y dejaba entrever como no solo las estructuras burocráticas y administrativas debían ser reformadas, sino también los hábitos de la población y su gobernabilidad. El análisis de las obras impresas en España durante la centuria dieciochesca resulta necesario para entender el movimiento renovador de las ciencias médicas. Además, permite identificar las diferentes etapas que tuvo la práctica inoculatoria en la corte española, que fue aumentando su interés por la inoculación a medida que esta fue aceptada entre los países europeos, un claro ejemplo de trasvase de conocimiento científico.
The inoculation technique is based on the idea that individuals suffering from the disease smallpox, were refractory to develop it again. Consisted in transferring to a healthy subject material from pustules of one sick of smallpox. Its dissemination as preventive remedy against smallpox in the West focused in the eighteenth century. The acceptance of the inoculation by the society and the Spanish institutions was not uniform, the process opened an intense debate among critics and advocates that retarded their practice and left glimpse as not only the bureaucratic and administrative structures should be reformed, also the habits of the population and its governance. The analysis of printed works in Spain during the eighteenth century, it is essential to understand the revivalism of medical sciences element. It also allows to identify the different stages that had the inoculatoria practice in the Spanish court, literary media under tight state control, which increased their interest in inoculation as it was accepted and disseminated among European countries, in an example of transfer of scientific knowledge.
