Abstract: 
Este trabajo discute una historiografía literaria de banderías, simplificadora y deformante
y que establece la existencia de dos tradiciones literarias en el Perú: la primera, criolla, limeña
y conservadora; y la segunda, mestiza e indígena, provinciana y progresista. Se rechaza la
imagen de Ricardo Palma como colonialista que revive el pasado y lo hace vigente como
tradición fuerte y fértil. Las Tradiciones inauguran una literatura nacional como liberadora
del pasado, literatura comprometida con el proyecto modernizador de las ex-colonias. Las
Tradiciones asumen políticamente la labor que en el mundo europeo cumplió la historiografía
de la Ilustración.
This work discusses simplifying and erroneus a literary historiography of factions, and
that establishes the existence of two literary traditions in Peru: the first, Creole, of Lima and
conservative; and the second, racially mixed and indigenous, provincial and progressive. Ricardo
Palma’s image rejects as(like) colonialist that re-lives through the past and makes it in force as
strong and fertile tradition. The Traditions inaugurate a national as liberating literature of the
past, literature compromised with the project to modernize the ex-colonies. The Traditions assume
politically the mission that in the European world fulfilled the historiography of the Illustration.
