Abstract: 
Templarios y hospitalarios llegaron a la Península Ibérica a principios del siglo XII. Su objetivo era obtener recursos para Tierra Santa. Sin embargo, los reyes cristianos pronto buscaron implicar a las dos órdenes militares internacionales en la Reconquista hispánica. No obstante, templarios y hospitalarios ibéricos debían enviar cada año parte de sus rentas al Oriente Latino. En consecuencia, su presencia en la frontera sufrió una crisis en la segunda mitad del siglo XII. En cambio, ambas órdenes participaron activamente en el gran avance de la reconquista durante el siglo XIII. En los siglos XIV y XV sólo la Orden del Hospital tuvo una pequeña presencia en la frontera ibérica con el Islam.
Templars and Hospitallers arrived to the Iberian Peninsula at the beginning of the Twelfth Century. Their aim was to obtain resources for the Holy Land. However, Christian kings sought to involve the two international military orders in the Hispanic Reconquest. Nevertheless, Iberian Templars and Hospitallers each year should send part of their income to the Latin East. Consequently, their presence on the border suffered a crisis in the second half of the Twelfth Century. Instead, both orders were actively involved in the great advance of the Reconquest during the Thirteenth Century. In the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Centuries only the Order of the Hospital had a small presence in the Iberian frontier with Islam.
