Abstract: 
Between the Sierra de Ponce and the Peñarrubia-Castellar mountain ranges deposits of blocks-in-clay are found. Within it can be differenciate three main facies: matrix with clasts, mixed blocks-in-clay, and blocks with scarce matrix. The formation of this deposit took place during the middle Burdigalian and was scaled by lower langhian marls. El Francés Chaotic Complex can be interpreted as a collisional melange of the Subbetic.
