Poder i propaganda imperial a través dels mil·liaris

Abstract

La representació del poder polític en diversos àmbits de la societat i la cultura, comú a totes les èpoques històriques, tampoc és un element aliè a la societat romana. Existeixen diversos vehicles per a la transmissió de la propaganda imperial, com per exemple l’escultura, l’epigrafia honorífica o la numismàtica. A zones rurals també tindran importància els mil·liaris, que constitueixen altre mitjà per ennoblir l’elit. El que pretenem amb aquest text és, en primer lloc, explicar aquests monuments tant dins del seu context funcional com a referències viàries, com dins de la seua funció propagandística, per a després comparar les propostes historiogràfiques amb la informació recollida durant el nostre projecte de tesi doctoral i avaluar diferents possibilitats d’investigació.

The depiction of political power in many spheres of society and culture, an interest common to all historical times, is not an odd element in Roman society. There are several vehicles for the transmission of imperial propaganda, such as sculpture, honorary epigraphy or numismatics. In rural zones, milestones are also important, as long as they consist in another way of honouring the elite. What we aim to do in this text is, first, to explain both the functional context of milestones as road references, and their propaganda function. Then, we will compare these data from historiography with the information collected in our thesis research in order to propose different investigation possibilities.
