Un debate adulterado: distribución del poder simbólico en las disputas feministas en torno a la prostitución

Abstract

Con frecuencia, el debate feminista español en torno a la prostitución se representa como una polarización de posturas incapaces de alcanzar algún consenso puesto que expresarían cosmovisiones radicalmente divergentes sobre el fenómeno. Con el fin de complejizar la descripción de la polémica, en este ensayo trato de analizar las relaciones de poder en las que se enmarca el debate a partir del pensamiento de Pierre Bourdieu y eventos ocurridos entre 2017-2018. Para ello, se propone la hipótesis de caracterizar al feminismo como un campo bourdieuano, describiendo la distribución de capitales que da cuenta de un reparto desigual del poder simbólico. Seguidamente, se expone la conformidad entre el habitus de género y el discurso abolicionista dominante que se reproduce en la polémica. Por último, me centro en la dominación lingüística como área en la que mejor se expresan los efectos del acuerdo entre habitus y campo, es decir, el ejercicio de la violencia simbólica. En consecuencia, se abordan los mecanismos de censura, la dominación afectiva, el sesgo de confirmación y la falacia por la representación.

The Spanish feminist debate around prostitution often represents a polarisation of positions incapable of consensus, since they express radically divergent perspectives about the condition. In order to elucidate the controversy, I attempt to analyse the power relations around the debate from Pierre Bourdieu’s thought in considering events which occurred in 2017-2018. To this end, the hypothesis on defining feminism as a bourdieusian field will be tested by detailing the distribution of capital, which shows an unequal distribution of symbolic power. Next, the acceptance between gender habitus and the dominant abolitionist discourse used in the polemic will be expounded. Finally, I will focus on linguistic domination as an area in which the effects of the agreement between habitus and field are best expressed: that is, the exercise of symbolic violence. Hence, censorship mechanisms, affective domination, confirmation bias and the fallacy of representation are studied.
