Femicide in Spain: Data availability, opportunities and challenges

Abstract

The inclusion of the concept of femicide in the Spanish public health agenda is relatively new, as shown by its recent inclusion in the dictionary of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language. Although international organizations include crimes that are a reality in Spain under this term, including homicides related to sexual exploitation and the trafficking of women and girls; up until now the homicide of women at the hands of their partners or ex-partners is the type of femicide that has received the most political and social attention in Spain.
