dc.description.abstract | While the characters of La Araucana have occupied a visible space in contemporary literature, their creator, Alonso de Ercilla, is, above all, a historical figure who has been reclaimed in critical analysis, except for certain poems and plays. This article analyses how the works of Andrés Bello, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda aim to underscore the moral nobility of Alonso de Ercilla and emphasise him as the inaugurator of a critical South American discourse in poetry in Spanish. To these values, Neruda adds Ercilla’s vision not only as an inventor but also as a “liberator” of Chile. In short, the contemporary recovery of Ercilla by these writers opened the road to the canonisation of Ercilla as the inaugurator of Chilean literature. | en |
