Nezahualcóyotl y la invención de las tradiciones

Abstract

Se realiza un recorrido por un conjunto de textos que, desde el siglo XVI al XX, se presentan como poemas del rey de Tezcoco del siglo XV o como recreaciones y homenajes. Crónicas y poemas (también falsificaciones) nos llevan a cuestiones centrales del pensamiento del rey- poeta (como su conversión al monoteísmo) y a una textualidad que, hasta el siglo XX, permite una lectura de cada época que indica, sobre todo, el papel que Nezahualcóyotl asume en la recuperación de la tradición mexicana prehispánica y en la invención sucesiva de la misma, acomodada a la sociedad colonial y al México independiente, en cuanto referente cultural que da cuenta de la particular historia del “país azteca”.

An overview of a series of texts that, from the 16th to the 20th centuries, are presented as poems by the 15th century king of Tezcoco, or remakes and tributes. Chronicles and poems (including forgeries) lead us to central themes in the thinking of the poet king (such as his conversion to monotheism) and to a textuality which, up until the 20th century, allow a reading of each era which shows, above all, the role played by Nezahualcóyotl in the recovery and successive reinvention of the pre-Hispanic Mexican tradition, adapted to colonial society and independent Mexico, as a cultural reference for the specific history of the “Aztec country”.
