La exposición a violencia de género y su repercusión en la adaptación escolar de los menores

Abstract

INTRODUCCIÓN. Aunque en España, en los últimos años, se ha realizado un importante despliegue de iniciativas legislativas y técnicas para el abordaje de situaciones de violencia de género, estas han estado centradas en la mujer víctima del maltrato, quedando fuera del foco de atención los menores hijos/as de estas mujeres y las posibles repercusiones de la exposición a esta violencia en su desarrollo psicosocial. El presente estudio, parte de una investigación sobre menores atendidos junto con sus madres en centros de acogida, y analiza las repercusiones de la exposición a la violencia de género en su ajuste escolar. MÉTODO. La muestra ha estado formada por 117 menores españoles de edades comprendidas entre los 3 y los 18 años y la información se ha recogido a partir de un cuestionario cumplimentado por los educadores de los centros. RESULTADOS. Se observan dificultades tanto de rendimiento escolar como en la adaptación de los menores a la escuela. Igualmente, se señalan algunas variables que parecen estar incidiendo especialmente en esta problemática. DISCUSIÓN. De los resultados se infiere la necesidad de prestar una mayor atención a las dificultades que presentan estos menores y del papel del ámbito educativo en la detección y apoyo de estas dificultades.

INTRODUCTION. Although Spain has made an important deployment of legislative initiatives and techniques to approach intimate partner violence (IPV) in recent years, these ones have been focused on the women as the victims of abuse, leaving out the center of attention the children of these women and the potential impact of IPV in their psychosocial development. The study, which is part of a research carried out on children and their mothers which were living in sheltered accommodation, analyzes the impact of exposure to IPV in their school adjustment. MÉTHOD. The sample consisted of 117 Spanish children and adolescents between 3 and 18 years old and the information has been collected from a questionnaire filled out by the staff who worked at the sheltered centre. RESULTS. Some difficulties are noticed in both academic achievement and the adaptation of students to school. It also identifies some variables that seem to have an impact on this problem. DISCUSSION. These outcomes evidence the need to pay greater attention to the difficulties presented by these children and the role of educational environment in the support and detection of these difficulties.
