Cuestiones sobre la arqueología funeraria en el ámbito del Estrecho de Gibraltar: el ejemplo de la necrópolis de cuevas artificiales de Los Algarbes (Tarifa, Cádiz)

Abstract

Este trabajo presenta por objetivo principal explicar y comprender el paisaje simbólico, entendiendo éste como lugar sagrado, de culto y enterramiento a lo largo de la Prehistoria. La necrópolis de Los Algarbes (Tarifa, Cádiz), objeto del estudio, se localiza en un espacio geográfico tremendamente interesante como es el ámbito y área de influencia del Estrecho de Gibraltar, un territorio liminal, de confín, a caballo entre dos continentes y dos mares, cuya proximidad unió más que separó en estas fechas. Su posición favoreció el contacto entre diferentes realidades culturales desde la Prehistoria, convirtiéndose el mundo funerario en uno de los mejores indicadores de estos contactos, plasmación y mezcla de las distintas creencias y pervivencia de las manifestaciones religiosas y simbólicas.

The aim of our article is to explain and understand the symbolic landscape, considering this one, in addition, as a sacred place of worship and burial along Prehistory. In the centre of this area the necropolis of Los Algarbes is located (Tarifa, Cádiz), the target of the present study, which is located in a geographically speaking highly interesting space since it is close to the Strait of Gibraltar, a border territory between two continents and two seas, whose proximity was more a cause of union than it was of separation in those days. In this way, it favoured the contact between different cultural realities from Prehistory, turning the funerary world into one of the best indicators of these contacts, display and mixture of the different beliefs and survival of the religious and symbolic manifestations.
